Fit'n'Fun

You already know that I love dancing and that I'm a member of the Showdance team of the Villacher Faschingsgilde. But since I'm a person who needs action that is not all... Actually I'm doing a couple of things in my free time ;)

Bokwa

Bokwa is a group fitness programm but not exactly a dance-workout as Zumba might be. The idea is that people 'dance' letters and numbers - based on the form of them. You do not have to count the steps but just move to the rythm of the music. The moves are standardised - so if you wish to join a Bokwa-class while on holiday you can participate without difficulties.
Actually it is a good training for the cardiovascular system and it doesn't even feel like you are working out although it is pretty intense. Just check out the video below and maybe you are inspired to find a Bokwa-class near you and try it for yourself :D

Blogilates

I came across Blogilates while browsing through various discussion boards. One girl there suggested one of the workout videos by Cassey Ho and posted a link. I just followed the link and the next thing I knew was, that I was addicted to her workouts. They are usually between 5 and 15 minutes long and usually target certain body parts -e.g. abs, upper body, etc.
She provides you with a workout plan where she puts together appr. 5 videos every day (so it adds up to appr. one hour of workouts) and you can work trough it and tick them off. And it is FREE!!! All the videos can be found on Youtube and are also linked on the blogilates community website. You can also download an app to your mobile phone or tablet if you don't want or cannot work out in front of your computer.
I also really love Cassey as a person - she is so sweet and she keeps talking troughout all of the workout videos which is really distracting me from the length or difficulty of the workout - and BOOM - suddenly the video is over.
I'm not saying that her workouts are easy and you are not sweating blood but I don't care because I started to love the burn :D
Of course, you have to be careful when doing the exercises because when they are done wrong you can really hurt yourself. Also, it is important to know that Blogilates is based on Pilates which requires special techniques when working out (e.g. breathing) - those techniques actually really help you with the exercises once you managed to do them right, that is ;)For those who haven't done Pilates before it can be really difficult to start with the monthly workout calendar right away because it is pretty intense. For those beginners Cassey actually has a Beginner's Calendar where there are only appr. 3 vids a day and one rest day. This calendar really helps to get into the whole thing and if you are consistent you can already see results after those 4 weeks. Don't be surprised though when you have a hard time switching from the Beginners to the monthly workout calendar because even experienced POPsters (that's how Cassey calls her "followers") sometimes have trouble getting through all the videos! :D
What I also really like about the Blogilates Community is that you can really motivate each other and connect with POPsters all over the world. You can share your experiences, recipes or just talk about random stuff.
Aaaaand there are a lot of yummy recipes out there :D Cassey herself supports and promotes the Clean eating-lifestyle introduced by Cynthia Sass - it basically means that you avoid processed food and cook your own meals, etc. But I would suggest to just google it to find out more :D
Oh, and Cassey has her own workout label - she has mats and shirts and shorts and stuff like that in her shop. I would really love to get some of the equipment but up to now I don't want to pay appr. 20€ for the shipping :P

Hip Hop

I started Hip Hop dance at the Tanzschule Huber classes in March - once the Fasching was over. Unfortunately, there is no class for my age group so I joined the girls aged 16-19. Actually, that wasn't really a problem. They are all so sweet and motivated and reeeeeally good in what they are doing :D We worked on 2 choreos - one to Beyonce's Blow, the other to Beyonce's Partition - and are about to present what we have learned in two days time at the little dance gala organised by the school :D I'm really looking forward to it. The girls who were doing the class since autumn are also presenting 3 more dances and there are also the other age groups who will be on stage :D

30 Day Shred

With Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred it was pretty much the same as with Blogilates. I read about her 30 day program to slim down and tone up your body. The program consists of 3 levels. You should do each level at least for 10 days or, as Jillian says, "until you feel fit enough to move on to the next level. Each level consists of 3 circuits with 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio and 1 minute abs - targeting every itsy bitsy muscle of your body.
Throughout the first 2-3 days it was really hard. Not because I'm a total couch potatoe and not working out at all but because it was so intense. Each workout is about 20 minutes long but so intense that you really start sweating after the first few minutes. Now I'm almost through with the program - only two more days of Level 3 and I can really see a change in my body. It is firmer and I also lost a little bit around the waist. I'm looking forward to do the follow-up program - Ripped in 30. Check back on my experiences on that workout :D

Zumba

I have done Zumba before and then stopped going to class because it was really boring and I didn't feel challenged at all. But since I started to work out more over the last couple weeks I realised I needed more cardio in my routine. Going back to class was no option so I checked online for DVDs and found the Zumba Exhilarate Box which included 7 DVDs (for all levels of experience), 3 Target zone-DVDs and a pair of Zumba Toning sticks. I was lucky to get it second-hand - that way I saved appr. 50%. Funnily, now that I'm doing Zumba all on my own at home in front of the TV it is really fun. And I have to say it is a really effective addition to my workout plan. I'm sweating blood but it is fun :D

Hula Hoop

Another fitness trend I came across while browsing online. I read through peoples' comments and experiences and was hooked. I checked online what types of hoops were available for fitness purposes and eventually got a weighted hoop with 1.5 kg. Again I was able to save around 50% because I got it second-hand. It came disassembled in a box - that was something I had to get me head around. Once I had put it together I started to hoop right away...and had to accept the fact that I was pretty bad at it - although I was pretty good at it when I was a child. Additionally, I realised that hooping is different when you use a weighted hoop. Aaaand my hoop also has little bulges which are supposed to massage your body and increase the toning effect. I have to say...after the first day I took a 2-day break. For one thing because I felt sore (of course, because I wasn't used to it any more) and for another thing because I was really bruised around the waist.
I have been hooping for 2 weeks now - always with 2-3 days break in between. I haven't been able to see any results just yet but it is definately fun and we will see about the results :D
